So here we are. It's day one of my attempt to fulfill a New Year's resolution to spend time writing down my thoughts more often and hey, what better way to do it than to publish those thoughts to the whole world!
I've never really been a blog-and-bare-it-all-to-the-internet kind of person. In fact, I've never been a share-your-innermost-thoughts-and-feelings-with-your-friend kind of person. So why start a blog? I don't know. I guess that I figured that I would never get over the hump that's keeping me from journaling if I didn't have an audience to hold me responsible. Now let's get one thing clear here: this blog is for me. Yep, for me. Not for you. So don't bother telling me that you think my writing's terrible or that I never have a single original thought. Your responsibility as a reader of my blog is simply to make me feel like I need to write something every so often and to tell me that posting pictures of my dog doesn't count as a blog post (although, let's be honest, Finnegan is the world's most adorable dog and deserves some publication).
I suppose that I should start with a quick introduction of who I am so that if you're the one person reading this blog who isn't directly related to me or friends with me on Facebook, you'll have a good idea of where I'm coming from. First and foremost, I'm a Catholic. Gasp! "She's Catholic?!" you say. I know, I know, it's shocking that there's someone under the age of 65 who actually enjoys praying the rosary and going to Mass, but believe it or not, we exist. My thoughts, my opinions, my values are all formed by the Catholic faith that I've been taught, experienced, and lived throughout my entire life. Now let's be real for a second; I wasn't born speaking Latin and smelling like incense. My journey to the faith I hold onto so dearly today is a result of trial and error, and a huge heaping of grace and mercy that God has poured out upon me. I'm sure as the blog posts go on, you'll get a better picture of how my relationship with Christ has truly changed my life and given me purpose.

Next, I'm a wife. I've been delightfully married to my husband Joe for a year now and I have to admit, the first year of marriage wasn't as hard as most people made it out to be. I suppose that's just another benefit of two people who decided to love God more than they love each other. I met Joe as a student at Oregon State University. We both attended Catholic campus ministry events at the Newman Center on campus and eventually we realized that God's plan for our friendship was meant to be something more. Long story short, we ended up getting married after I graduated from college and life's been fantastic ever since.
Alright, next up in the list of things I am: I am a mother-to-be. Whoop whoop! There's a baby on the way! I'm due this summer and couldn't be more thrilled to meet the little baby growing inside of me. The baby that God designed before placing him or her in my womb, the baby that I've been praying each day for, the baby that will change my life forever. I'm sure there will be plenty more blog posts about the baby (after all, part of why I started this blog was to track my thoughts during pregnancy), so let's move on for now.
To round out this list about me, let's talk about my career. For about 55-60 hours a week, I spend my time as a construction engineer. That means I work out on a construction site, helping mediate between the labor force, the architect, and owner of the project so that what the owner wants to be built, actually gets built. Most of the time, I enjoy what I do. I love that I never do the same thing each day and that I'm not stuck at a desk all day long. The downside to my career is that I work early mornings, late nights, and occasionally the weekends. It often leaves me stressed out and exhausted (just ask my husband who has lost count of the times I've come home from work, eaten dinner, and then promptly fallen asleep on the couch). We'll see where I end up once the baby comes. I don't understand how anyone in this industry can balance work and a family while maintaining any sense of sanity.
Well, here we go. First blog post complete. Wasn't anything special, but at least I'm over the hump. I've started a new project and as with everything else in my life, it's a work in progress.
